MY STORY
Music Is My Life
At the age of 14, when I had very little idea of my interests or what I was even good at, my Nan had the idea to buy me my first electric guitar. I’d always looked up to people around me who played guitar but never thought it would be something I’d be good at. However, when I was taken into the music shop and had that first guitar placed on my lap, I knew straight away that this was what I wanted to do, it just felt right.
Soon after, my nan booked me in for some guitar lessons with a local studio. Being a very quiet, self conscious teen with very little confidence and anxiety, the thought of lessons was daunting to say the least. A friend in school had already taught me a couple of things on guitar so I went in with some understanding of the instrument. Within the first lesson, the tutor put me at ease straight away and gave me the extra confidence in my own abilities that this was something I could do well at and enjoy. After a short few lessons when I started to recognise some of the songs I’d been listening to for years coming from my own guitar, it quickly became my main passion and I was hooked! The more and more I played, my confidence grew and my guitar went everywhere with me - it was my comfort blanket as an unsure teen. I was determined to master some of the music around me that had been such a source of inspiration.
After playing for many years I was determined to make music my career as well as my passion so when the opportunity arose to start teaching, I jumped at the chance. I enjoyed seeing the progress of my students week on week as well as seeing my own growth as a player. I’ve taught students from the age of 5 right up until the age of 70 and have taught players of all abilities. For me, the most rewarding part of teaching is seeing the confidence levels increase from students who, like me, thought that being a guitar player was unachievable.
It is now my goal to continue to teach to a high standard in a relaxed, fun setting where students can go at their own pace. I tailor each lesson to the individual student so that they learn in a way that suits them and can enjoy every lesson. I aim to enable every student to achieve their musical dreams and to see their own progress each lesson. Music is everything to me and I am so happy to be sharing my passion with others.
